Intellectual Humility

"Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know."

— 1 Corinthians 8:2

God of wisdom,

I can easily believe that I know, that I'm right, that my view is correct. This intellectual arrogance closes me off to learning and dialogue.

Give me intellectual humility. The recognition that I don't know everything, that I can be wrong, that others can be right where I think I am.

May I truly listen to different perspectives, question my certainties, stay open to changing my mind. Intellectual humility is the beginning of true wisdom.

Amen.

Reflection

On what subject are you perhaps too sure of yourself? Could you explore other viewpoints with openness?

For all those locked in their certainties.
