The Balance of Effort and Rest
"Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest."
— Exodus 34:21
Lord of the Sabbath,
I tend to glorify constant effort, to feel guilty when I rest. But You created me with a need for rest, for alternation between action and recovery.
Teach me the balance between effort and rest. To work with commitment but also to rest without guilt. One is not better than the other; they are complementary.
May I honor my need for rest as I value my work. Understand that I am more productive, more creative, happier when I respect this natural rhythm.
Amen.

Reflection
Does your life lean too much toward effort or rest? How could you rebalance?
For all those who exhaust themselves by never resting.
